Clarence Parker, famously known as Ace Parker, is a retired National Football League player who also appeared in the Major League Baseball for four years. Born on May 17, 1912, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and had his college education at Duke University. While in the said college, he became a varsity athlete for baseball and basketball and also played football. As a football player, he served as a tailback for most of his seasons in the university and was named to the Heisman Trophy as a sixth placer. His outstanding career in Duke University was honored by his election to the College Football Hall of Fame and to North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. Parker eventually became a star in the National Football League, starting for the Brooklyn Dodgers who selected him during the National Football League Draft of 1937. He created impressive numbers as a player for several infield positions during his first years in the league. He recorded the highest passing yards in the 1938 season with 865 and improved more when Jock Sutherland became part of the Dodgers. With this new coach, Parker made 306 rushing yards and logged the highest points after touchdowns in the 1940 season. He continued to exhibit his great playing skills as a member of the New York Yankees and was named in 1972 to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He worked as a coach after he retired from playing.
