Albert Anthony Iafrate is a former professional ice hockey player who was born on March 21, 1966 in Deaborn, Michigan. He appeared in the National Hockey League as a defenseman from 1984 to 1999 and was known for his rocket slap shots. His 105.2 miles per hour slap shot record lasted for 16 years before it was outdone by Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins with 105.4 miles per hour shot. Nicknamed “The Planet”, he was drafted to play in the National Hockey League in 1984 by the Toronto Maple Leafs as a 4th overall pick. He appeared in the Ontario Hockey League before pursuing a national league career and played for the USA Hockey Team in the 1984 Winter Olympics. In his entire stay as an NHL player, he accomplished 799 games and made 152 goals. He logged a record of 311 assists and made 463 points. According to many reviews, his greatest season was in 1992-1993 where he made 25 goals and made 66 points from 41 assists. He has made a Washington Capitals record for most number of goals by a defenseman for that statistics.
