He also excelled while playing for the Dainville Leafs of the Carolina League. Fowler was drafted by the Cinicinnati Redlegs in the MLB and became the team's relief pitcher. The first win that he recorded for his MLB career was in a match against the Chicago Cubs. By the end of his first season, he was posting an ERA of 3.83. He became a starter pitcher in the 1955 and 1956 seasons. He had a short stint with the Dodgers before playing for the Angels. From the 1961 to the 1963 seasons, Fowler had a commendable 2.96 earned run average in the 158 games that he pitched for.
