Ben Grieve is a retired outfielder in the Major League Baseball. He played for the Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs before retiring after a total of nine seasons. In 1998, Grieve was named as the AL Rookie of the Year. He is the son of retired professional baseball player Tom Grieve. Ben started his professional career with the Oakland Athletics. During his first season, he was able to hit a solid .288 batting average which earned for him the Rookie of the Year award. In the following seasons he was able to come up with a .265 batting average with 28 homers, and a .279 batting average with a 27 homeruns. In 2000, Grieve was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. During his first season with the Devil Rays, Grieve was able to hit 11 homers and then 19 homers in the following season despite being plagued by injuries. Grieve decided to sign with the Milwaukee Brewers as free agent in 2003 but was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2004. With the Cubs, Grieve was a back-up outfielder. After being granted free agency, he decided to sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He ended his MLB career after he signed a minor league contract with the White Sox organization.
