William Henry Hanzlik, known as Bill Hanzlik, was born on December 6, 1957 in Middletown, Ohio. He is a former National Basketball Player and coach. Listed at 6 ft. 7 in., he played as a guard at University of Notre Dame. He made his way to the National Basketball League after being drafted in 1980. He was a 20th pick by the Seattle Supersonics in the 1980 NBA Draft round one. Although he was picked at the first round, he was known to have a very low score average in college with only 7.2 points per game. He spent two years with the Supersonics and then moved to play for the Denver Nuggets. In 1986, he was chosen to play as part of the All-Defense Team selection. He spent eight years with the Nuggets which makes his NBA playing career a total of ten years. According to sources, he was an assistant of a few NBA teams during the 1990s. After retiring from playing, he worked as a head coach for Denver Nuggets, replacing Dick Motta. He spent one year as the Nugget's coach with a record of 11-71. According to statistics, this record was only two wins ahead the 1972-1973 Philadelphia 76ers which was considered as an all-time worst team. Because of his bad year with the Nuggets, he was fired at the end of the 1997 season. The Nuggets hired Mike D'Antoni as head coach after Hanzlik.
