Billy Hitchcock was a professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball and also served for some time as the president of the Southern League, a class AA league. Hitchcock was also a manager, coach and scout. Hitchcock, who was born in Inverness, Alabama, decided to study in Auburn University. During the 1942 season, Hitchcock was able to join the Detroit Tigers team but had to serve in the Army Air Force after World War II broke out. Hitchcock finished serving in the military in 1946 and promptly went back to playing baseball. Hitchcock was able to play for a total of nine seasons, appearing in a total of 703 games. Aside from the Tigers, Hitchcock was able to play for the Washington Senators, the Boston Red Sox, the St. Louis Browns and for the Philadelphia Athletics.
