Robert Ransom Rush is a retired professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball. He was born on December 21, 1925 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He threw and batted right and attended Riley as a high school student. His nickname is Big Bob and he spent his college days at the Indiana University . Rush was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent in 1947 and made his first appearance in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 22, 1948. In a game against the Boston Braves, he and fellow pitcher Warren Spahn made a record of stealing a base against each other in the same game. This record was beaten only recently by Jason Marquis and Greg Maddux. Rush was an All- Star twice in his career. In 1957, he was traded off to the Milwaukee Braves and was part of the team that played against the New York Yankees for the 1958 World Series title. In 1960, his playing rights were purchased by the Chicago White Sox and he was released the same year. He last appeared in a game against the Washington Senators on August 7, 1960. He retired with a 127- 152 win- loss record, a 3.65 earned run average and 1,244 strikeouts.
