Carl Blake Willis was formerly a relief pitcher in the Major Baseball League. He batted left-handed, threw right-handed and was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 23rd round of the 1983 amateur draft. Willis made his debut for the Detroit Tigers in June 9, 1984. He was a member of 2 World Series champion, first with the Twins in 1991and then the Tigers in 1984. To complete an earlier deal made on August 27, 1984, he was sent by the Tigers to Cincinnati Reds. On December 1985, he was sent to the California Angels from the Reds. After 4 months, he returned to the Cincinnati Reds from California Angels in the earlier draft pick. He spent 2 years of his baseball career with the Reds and sooner, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1988. On December 18, 1989, he signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Indians. After a year, he signed with the Minnesota Twins. He was released by the Twins on May 4, 1995. As a player, he had a 22- 16 win- loss record, 4.25 earned run average, and 222 strikeouts. After spending enough time playing baseball, Willis tried to coaching. On November 30, 2009, he was named the Seattle Mariners minor-league pitching coordinator and later on promoted to the Mariners coaching staff as the new Pitching Coach., as a replacement for Coach Rick Adair in 2010.
