Chuck Hinton is a retired professional baseball player in the Major League Baseball and appeared with the Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians, and the California Angels. Born in Rocky Mountain, California, Hinton was an outfielder in the MLB and was a right-handed player. Hinton became active in the league from the 1961 to 1968 seasons. Hinton went to Shaw University and was signed by the Baltimore Orioles in 1956 as a free agent. However, Hinton never got to break into the Baltimore team and was selected by the Washington Senators from the Orioles during the 1960 expansion draft. Hinton was able to play for the Senators in the MLB during the 1961 season. During the 1962 season, Hinton was able to finish 29th in the voting for the AL Most Valuable Player. Hinton was named as an American League All-Star during the 1964 which was consequently his last season of playing for Washington. After being traded to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Woodie Held and Bob Chance, Hinton stayed with the team until his retirement after the 1972 except for the 1969 season when Hinton played for a short time with the California Angels. Hinton led the league in batting averages during the 1962 to 1964 seasons.
