Cookie Rojas Jerseys
More known in Major League Baseball as Cookie Rojas, Octavio Victor Rojas Rivas was born March 6, 1939 in Havana,Cuba. Rojas was not only a player of the game for 4 teams, but later became a manager in the MLB for two teams. Despite objections of his father to become a doctor, Rojas first played with the Havana Sugar kings, a triple A-Affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. This led to first appearance in the majors in 1963 when he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in the off-season. Rojas was the Phils starting second baseman at that time. Rojas was described as being very talented, as he played every position in at least one game in the field including pitcher and catcher while with the Phillies. He also became an All-Star player in 1965. Come 1970, it almost appeared to most that Rojas' career was coming to an end as he showed signs of struggling in his performances. He almost decided to retire then. Fortunately, he continued and found himself at the peak of his career for another three more years, being selected to four All-Start games in the early 1970's. In 1977, Rojas finally decided to retire from baseball, and began coaching and scouting for different teams. He became the third Cuban-born manager in 1988 to lead the California Angels for one year. Another opportunity to manage an MLB team was in 1996 for the Florida Marlins, but that only lasted for one game. Get out of the heat, and grab your MLB hats, caps, and visors before going to the game. You'll be glad you did when you see yourself adorned in great attire and MLB spirit!
