Eric Wedge is a former American professional baseball player. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and took his college education at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Wedge played as catcher for two teams in the Major League Baseball; the Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies. Wedge was 6 ft. 3 in. and 215 lbs. He both batted and threw right handed. Wedge began his professional baseball career after he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox during the 1989 amateur draft where he was a third round pick of the team and formally signed on June 26, 1989. Before making his debut in the majors, Wedge spent some time in the Red Sox's minor league system playing for the Elmira Pioneers, New Britain Red Sox and the Winter Haven Red Sox. Wedge made his pro debut on October 5, 1991, his only appearance of the season with a pinch hit single off of the Milwaukee Brewers' Chris George. In November 1992, Wedge was acquired by the Colorado Rockies from the Red Sox during the expansion draft. At the end of spring training in 1994, Wedge was released by the Rockies and was re-signed by the Red Sox later on May 2 and had his final game on July 29, 1994.
