Gary Gentry is a retired professional baseball player. He played from 1969 to 1975 in the Major League Baseball for the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. Gentry attended Arizona State University before going professional. He was 22 when he decided to go pro. He signed with the New York Mets and was able earn a pitching spot in the Mets rotation together with Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman. Gentry was part of the Mets team that played in the 1969 World Series Championships against the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets went on to win. During the third game in the World Series, Gentry pitched against the Orioles and was able to register a win. He was also the pitcher for the National League Championship Series game against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets won to secure the pennant. Winning 28 more games, Gentry continued to pitch for the Mets for another three seasons. However, the Mets only finished third in the National League for each of those seasons. Gentry was traded to the Braves in 1973 where he suffered an elbow injury and was released in 1975. After being re-signed by the Mets for a short time, he was released and retired that year.
