John Maywood Grubb Jr., popular as Johnny Grubb Jr., is from Richmond, Virginia. He is a retired Major League Baseball player who entered the league on September 10, 1972 for the San Diego Padres. The Padres selected him during the first round of the 1971 MLB Draft. As a rookie, he recorded notable statistics with .311 batting average, 37 runs batted in, and 8 home runs in 1973. In his second year as a Padres, he was included to the All-Star team of the National League. In 1977, he joined the Cleveland Indians and played for the team until 1978. Another remarkable season came in 1979 as a player for the Texas Rangers who signed him in 1978. That year, he was able to play 21 games. He spent four years with the Rangers and then moved to Detroit Tigers in 1983. With the Tigers, he played in the 1984 World Series and won over his first team, the San Diego Padres. According to statistics, he made a batting average of .278 and 475 runs batted in. He also posted 99 home runs and scored 553 points. Reviews say his best season was in 1986.
