Kay Whitmore is a retired professional ice hockey goal tender. He is from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Whitmore spent his junior hockey days with the Sudbury Legion and joined the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League in 1983. During his stay with Peterborough, he was named a First- Team All- Star. Whitmore was selected by the Hartford Whalers as 26th overall in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He played his first NHL level game in 1988. In 1992, he was traded off to the Vancouver Canucks and helped the team win the Smythe Division season championship. Whitmore was crucial to the Canucks winning the Clarence Campbell Bowl in the Western Conference finals. They proceeded to the Stanley Cup before finally losing to the New York Rangers in the finals. In 1996, he was sent to the Rangers and upon entering free agency in 1997 signed with the San Jose Sharks. He was then traded to different teams and even played for the Boston Bruins against the Chicago Blackhawks in November 2000. After a couple of years, he retired as a player and worked as a goaltending coach for the Peterborough Petes from 2002 to 2004. He then served as an analyst on NHL Network's On the Fly. He now works as a goaltending supervisor for the NHL.
