Born in Joliet, Illinois, Larry Gura is a former pitcher in the Major League Baseball. He became active in the league from 1970 until 1985 and is a left-handed pitcher. However, Gura is a switch batter. Gura attended Arizona State University and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs during round two of the 1969 amateur draft. Before getting to the MLB, Gura played in the Pacific Coast League for the Tacoma Cubs from 1969 all the way to 1971. However, he was called to the Cubs in 1970 and was even able to post an ERA of 3.79. He was able to appear in 20 games and started three of them. In 1973, Gura was traded to the Texas Rangers but was not able to play for the team. However, he was sent to the New York Yankees in 1974. It was with the Yankees that Gura would start playing in more games. During his first season he was able to play and start in eight games and posted an ERA of .241. He had a 5-1 win-loss record for that season. In 1976, Gura was traded to the Kansas City Royals and was selected to the 1980 All-Stars. His best season was in his first season with Kansas City when he posted an ERA of 2.30 and had a 4-0 win-loss record.
