Lou Piniella is a former player in the Major League Baseball who started out as a player in the American Legion Baseball. He also played in the PONY League Baseball and had the chance to play with Tony La Russa. He is a product of Jesuit High School of Tampa where he played as a basketball varsity athlete and only started to letter in baseball in college. He went to University of Tampa and was named to an All-American team. He had his first appearance in the Major League Baseball when he was just 21 years old. He played for the Baltimore Orioles in 1964 and had his second period in the major league after three years. He joined the Cleveland Indians and the Seattle Pilots in 1969. After signing with the Pilots, he joined the Kansas City Royals from the 1969 to 1973 season. After his stint with the Royals, he played for the New York Yankees and spent a few seasons in the minor leagues. He was able to win the American League East titles five times. He was also able to appear in two World Championship Series, one in 1977, and the other in 1978. He was able to make 1, 705 hits in his entire MLB playing career. After he retired from playing, he went to manage a few MLB teams and minor league teams. Recently, he was hired as the manager of the Chicago Cubs.
