Mathieu Garon, a professional Canadian Ice hockey goaltender, was born on January 9, 1978 in Chandler, Quebec. He plays for the team Columbus Blue Jackets and was a former player of Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Los Angeles Kings. A right-handed catcher, he stands 6 ft. 2 in. and is currently playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets . He first joined the team Montreal Canadiens in the 1996 National Hockey League Entry Draft. For the AHL, he became part of Fredericton Canadiens, Quebec Citadelles, Hamilton Bulldogs and the Manchester Monarchs and for the Victoriaville Tigres for QMJHL. In 2009, he won the Stanley Cup with his team, Pittsburgh Penguins. After 2006-2007 seasons, he became an unrestricted free agent until he signed a contract with Edmonton Oilers on July 2, 2007. He replaced the team's starting goaltender, Dwayne Roloson after making low goals against average, high save percentage and a total of four shootouts in the season 2007-2008. However, Roloson took over again after Garon sustained a knee injury. For the same season, he became the top shootout goalie for his 30 of 32 attempts and perfect 10-0 shootouts. He was then traded to Pittsburgh Penguins where he was 4th in the round pick in 2011 NHL draft. He replaced Ryan Stone and Dany Sabourin but did not play until Game 5 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals.
