Michael Peca is a former professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League. Peca played in the NHL as a forward and spent the most time with the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Islanders. Peca last appeared in the NHL for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Peca was able to enjoy 13 seasons as a player in the NHL. Born in Toronto, Ontario, and started his professional career with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. However, it was with the Ottawa 67's that Peca was able to develop into a sound offensive player. During the 1992 NHL entry draft, Peca was selected by the Vancouver Canucks and made it to the NHL in the succeeding season. In 1995, Peca played for the Buffalo Sabres. He was made the team captain in 1997 and held the position until in 2000. During the 1997 season, Peca received the Frank J. Selke Trophy and again during the 2002 season. Peca was with the Edmonton Oilers during the team's 2006 Stanley Cup finals. Peca was able to play in the 1994 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and then in the 2001 World Championship for the Canadian Team. During the latter competition, Peca captained the team.
