Newton Michael Grasso, who was popularly known as Mickey Grasso, was born on May 10, 1920. He hailed from Newark, New Jersey where he used to play baseball as a young guy. He made his Major League Baseball debut on September 18, 1946 for the team New York Giants. Although he was signed by the Giants in 1941 as an amateur free agent, he started playing as a catcher. He served as a technical lieutenant in 1943 and helped in a war before playing baseball again in 1946. A 6 ft. tall and 190 lb player and army official, he batted and threw with his right hand. He was originally drafted as a second baseman but was then converted during his rookie years as a catcher. He appeared in seven games with the Giants before he joined the Detroit Tigers in 1948. The next year, he played for the Washington Senators and appeared in 75 games with the team, making a batting average of .287. He joined the Cleveland Indians in 1954. He played his final game on May 8, 1955. He made a career-high record of 115 games played with a batting average .216. Grasso died on October 15, 1975 in Miami, Florida.
