Ozzie Virgil, Jr. was the son of former baseball utility player Osvaldo Jose (Pichardo) Virgil (1956-1969). He was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on December 7, 1956. He attended Moon Valley High School in Phoenix, Arizona where he set many state records trying to be a baseball player. Ozzie, Jr, who batted and threw right, is a former Major League Baseball catcher. He played with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980-85, Atlanta Braves in 1986-88 and Toronto Blue Rays in 1989-90. His professional career began when he made his debut for the Philadelphia Phillies on October 5, 1980. He was highly elected to the national League All-Star team twice in 1985 and 1987. He made a hit on his career in high 27 home runs when he was traded to Atlanta Braves. He made a record breaker career statistics of 98 home runs, 307 RBI's and a batting average of .243. His last MLB appearance was for the Toronto Blue Jays on April 24, 1990. He became a manager after his playing career.
