Paul Popovich, born as Paul Edward Popovich, was a former player in the Major League Baseball. He hailed from Flemington, West Virginia and played his initial years as a baseball player in high school and college. After his college baseball career, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs to play in the Major League Baseball. He had the first seasons of his professional baseball career with the Cubs which he joined form 1964 to 1967. After his first stint with the Cubs, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from the 1968 to 1969 season and then went back to the Chicago Cubs. He had a wonderful second stint with the Cubs from 1969 to the 1973 seasons. His last team in the Major League Baseball was the Pittsburgh Pirates which he signed in 1974. He appeared for the team until the 1975 season. Popovich was part of the Pirates team that bagged the National League Eastern Division championship. He played as a second baseman but has served as a utility player for most of the time for the Pirates, thus, earning the name “Supersub”. He made his final appearance in the league on July 21, 1975. After eleven seasons in the majors, he posted 176 runs, 14 home runs, 127 walks and .292 slugging percentage. He also made 403 hits, 134 runs batted in and 9 triples.
