Paul Westhead was born on February 21, 1939. He is a native from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the current coach for the University of Oregon women's basketball team. Previously he was a coach both in the National Basketball Association and Women's National Basketball Association in which won both titles. During his career he was known for the unorthodox style of run-and-gun play. He started his coaching career at La Salle University in 1970. He led his team to one NIT and 2 NCAA Tournament appearances in nine consecutive seasons. His NBA legacy started with the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1980 with the rookie Magic Johnson with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won the NBA Championship Title. The next year they lost to Houston in which Westhead was fired as the head coach. At the start of 1982-83 NBA season and became the coach for the Chicago Bulls. He returned to the collegiate level at the Loyola Marymount men's basketball. His team was considered as a legitimate contender at the NCAA. After 1989-90 NCAA season, he left LMU and went to the Denver Nuggets . He incorporated the style run-and-gun style of execution and play. After his 2 seasons with Denver, he was fired after they recorded a win-loss 44-120. Westhead returned again at the college level in George Mason University from 1993-1997. Then in 2003 he was chosen to be an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic. In 2007 he led the Phoenix Mercury to win the WNBA title, making him the first ever coach who won both NBA and WNBA titles.
