Pokey Reese is a retired professional baseball player who hails from Columbia, South Carolina. He played as an infielder for a few Major League Baseball teams which include the Cincinnati Reds which drafted him in the Major League Baseball amateur draft in 1997. He started his professional career in the minor leagues playing for the Toledo Mud Hens in the 1991 season of the Appalachian League. He also appeared in the South Atlantic League for the team Charleston Wheelers in the 1992 season. On April 1, 1997, he made his Major League Baseball debut for the Cincinnati Reds . He stayed with the team until the 2001 season and has bagged two Golden Glove awards during his stint with the team. After the 2001 season, he joined the Colorado Rockies but was immediately traded to the Boston Red Sox. However, he did not sign any deal with the team and was soon transferred to the Pittsburgh Pirates which signed him on January 30, 2002. He played for the Pirates from 2002 to 2003 and afterwards joined the Boston Red Sox. He spent his last few seasons in the Major League Baseball with the team. A right-handed batter and thrower, he was nicknamed Pokey because of his grandmother who actually meant Porky, but instead called him Pokey.
