Preston Ward is a former American professional baseball player. He was born in Columbia, Missouri and graduated from Springfield High School. Ward played as first baseman for several teams in the Major League Baseball; the Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Athletics. Ward is 6 ft. 4in. and 190 lb. He batted with his left and threw with his right. He started his career in the Major League Baseball after he was signed as amateur free agent by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1944. He made his pro debut with the Dodgers on April 20, 1948. Ward played for only one seasons with the dodgers. Ward has not been in the field after the 1948 seasons, until on October 14, 1949, Ward was purchased by the Chicago Cubs from the Dodgers where he played for four seasons from 1950 up to 1953 before he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates along with teammates Toby Atwell, Bob Addis , Gene Hermanski, George Freese and Bob Schultz on June 4, 1953 in exchange for Ralph Kiner, George Metkovich, Howie Pollet and Joe Garagiola. Ward played another four seasons with the Pirates until he was traded to the Cleveland Indians for Hank Foiles in 1956. And in 1958, Ward along with Roger Maris and Dick Tomanek were traded for Vic Power and Woodie Held of the Kansas City Athletics. Ward had his final game for the Athletics on August 18, 1959.
