Troy Eugene Percival started playing baseball at Moreno Valley Youth Federation (MVYF) and played on the Moreno Valley High School baseball team before attending the University of California, Riverside in his early years. Drafted by the California Angeles in 1990, he batted .203 in his only season as a catcher and before being a pitcher. He was used as a setup man but made his Major league debut as a reliever in 1995.Troy Percival was born on August 09, 1969 and is a former major league baseball closer. Before he made it to the major league, he spent most of his career with the Anaheim Angels. Percival was an important part of that franchise's 2002 World Series championship team. He also played for the Tampa Bay Rays, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers. His contract with the Angels expired in 2004 before he became a free agent. He signed with the Detroit Tigers as a free agent in 2005; however, he suffered an injury to his right forearm causing him to have a short career. His contract with the Tigers expired at the end of the season of 2006. Since 2005, he made his first ever comeback appearance against the Cincinnati Reds in June 29 0f 2007. After this, he signed a highly paid two-year contract with the Tampa bay Rays in November of 2007. Because of his injury, Percival decided and announced that he is retiring for the second time on August 11, 2009.
