Wesley Noreen Westrum (November 28, 1922-May 28, 2002). He was from Clearbrook, Minnesota. Played in the Major League Baseball as catcher, became a manager, coach and scout later in his career. Wesley was known as the superb defensive catcher. His debut in the Major League started on September 17, 1947. He first played with the New York Giants and was a right-handed hitter during his prime. Westrum shared catching duties with Ray Mueller . In 1950, he became a full-time catcher for the Giants leading the league with .999 fielding average. A key player to the 1951 New York run, hitting 20 homeruns, 70 runs batted in, and led National League catchers in baserunners caught stealing. They lost to the Yankees in the 1951 World Series. In his 11 year career after playing for 919 games, he tallied 503 hits, bats at .217 career average, 96 home runs, 315 runs batted in and .356 on base percentage ending his career with a total average of .985 fielding percentage. In 1964 he became the coach of Mets . Wesley rejoined the Giants as their manager and gave him a second managing opportunity. His final record as a manager was 260 wins, 316 losses (.415).
